Freda had time for everyone, especially her grandchildren. Happiest when the family gathered to share her delicious feasts in the Burnaby family home. She had a deep faith, a zest for life and a great sense of humor. She loved playing tennis; was a talented pianist, avid reader, gardener and world traveller. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Action for Animals in Distress Society. A funeral mass will be held Nov. 27 at St. Francis de Sales Parish, by invitation. Immacolata was predeceased by her husband Urbano, mother Maria Nicola, father Michele, brothers Berardino and Giovanni and sister Luisa. Passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, March 12, 2020. Ed Tobin, age 78 years was predeceased by his infant son, Eddie; parents, Edward and Elizabeth; sisters, Tina and Jenny and brother-in-law, Maurice. Visitation on Sunday from 12-4pm and 7-9pm and on Monday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A courageous whistle-blower stood up and warned him about an issue of mercury poisoning in an aboriginal community. He had the audacity to laugh about the incident and say, “Thank you for your donation.” Then he said again, “Thank you for your donation to the Liberal Party of Canada.” He actually said it twice. The former attorney general had asked him to stand up and say it was wrong to badger, hound, threaten, pressure and interfere in the criminal prosecution of SNC-Lavalin. According to this story, if he had done that and had met the other conditions, she might have stayed in caucus and continued to work with the Liberal government.

Luncheon April 12,2018

Next week’s meeting will be devoted to planning the event. Next week is our business luncheon and the focus of that will be the LOTB debrief and Sandi will be looking for input from everyone as to next years event so please try to attend. Mark your calendars for October 23rd for an evening meeting – this will be a ‘social fireside’ and will be held at the Clubhouse at Desert Rose Estates, hosted by Jim and Cheryle and Pam. I am sure Richard will print more thoroughly the School Plan in an upcoming Times article and I would encourage you to read that. It involves a very unique school schedule – there are only 10 other BC schools with some form of flex based learning systems. Basically it reduces the number of traditionally taught subject blocks and adds supervised learning centre hours for more self-directed learning for the students.

A special thank you to the staff at Hawthorne and Eagle Ridge Hospital for their excellent care of our mother over the last few years. Sister Marie Tremblay, CSJ (formerly Sister M. Clara) died peacefully at Sisters of St. Joseph’s Residence, 2 O’Connor Drive, Toronto, Ontario, on Friday, October 29, 2021, in the 81st year of her religious life. Four years ago she moved to St. Matthew’s in Surrey and made many wonderful friends. Jeanne continued to live in the Fleetwood area of Surrey for the remainder of her days. She was a parishioner at Precious Blood Catholic Church for more than 50 years, starting a coffee gathering and babysitting service while there.

Rotary Meeting July 5, 2012

A fine day in the spirit of those who gave their lives for our freedom. The Squamish Lions will reconvene the first Thursday of September; Thursday September 3, 2015. Check out this website throughout the summer for updates and images on all our summer events. As the community of Squamish continues to grow in size, its current public meeting and recreation spaces are filling up. Before planning the capital expense of expansion or construction of new facilities, the District is hoping to better utilize their current assets. The Senior’s Centre is well positioned to be a facility that has room for more. On Thursday May 4th, as part of Squamish Youth Week (May 1–7), the community of Squamish will CELEBRATE the youth of our community by awarding five unique awards.

I contracted polio in 1953 when I was only 10 years old. I have few side effects from polio, I was lucky, my roommates brother died the day I was admitted. All this to say Rotary and Partners have made a huge impact not only on polio eradication but in many other ways. Past Past Pres Ron presided (was in fine form!) and introduced the program which was vocational/bio talks by 3 of our club members. These talks are always entertaining and made so fascinating by the recognition that all our members are so well travelled, broadly experienced, dedicated and fun!

It exists through investments from large private sector and commercial interests. As an example, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec invests in that Vancouver project. Quebec pensioners help build mass transit for British Columbians, whose transit fares in turn help pay Quebec pensioners. With so much private money already invested in infrastructure, the last thing we should need is another government bank to provide more. The way one gets rich in a government economy is by winning the favour of the political decision-makers who allocate the resources. Instead of selling things that people agree to buy, one buys the politicians who control the money. If all the money is in the great vault of the state, profiteers work at buying or renting the keys to that vault. They offer luxurious vacations to prime ministers in exchange for grants to their foundations. They hire lobbyists to convince governments to shut down their competitors with more regulation and tariffs. Thus, for contractual and practical reasons, these jobs cannot be moved.

  • Safe travels Greg and look forward to seeing you back home in the fall.
  • Each year, scientific surveys are conducted in each of the five major Pacific herring stock areas, one of which is the Strait of Georgia.
  • Man Chan was a parishioner at St. Francis Xavier Church where he also volunteered.
  • I find myself becomming really relaxed here about all sorts of situations.
  • Ken was a kind-hearted man with a subtle sense of humour.

Six years ago, Quebec was debating secularism following the introduction of the Quebec charter of values. Those passionate and necessary debates led to the introduction of Bill 21 on secularism last week. Today, Ottawa wants to prevent us from resolving that issue. Mr. Speaker, I have answered this question on numerous occasions. We know there were five weeks of meetings for the justice committee. We know the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner is studying this matter and we know there is an ongoing court case. We know all information is public so that Canadians can decide.
