The Michigan Gaming Control Board has authorized the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians to immediately begin offering online slot machines, casino games and mobile sports wagering. The work has led to 350 construction jobs, including 35 of which have a preference for Native Americans. When completed, the expansion will create up to 400 new jobs at the casino resort. The hotel project was announced last Wednesday by tribal leaders, casino management and the Pokagon Gaming Authority, which oversees the management and operations of the tribe’s gaming enterprises.
Their decision transfered 166 acres of Pokagon Band land into federal trust under the U.S. Interior Department and included federal approval to build build a Class II gaming casino. Four Winds South Bend features five restaurants including signature favorites such as Copper Rock Steakhouse, The Buffet and the new Kankakee Grille. In addition to all the great places to dine, you’ll be able to kick back and relax with friends at three bars. The casino celebration was one of the last official acts for Wesaw. The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians recently elected its new tribal council members, which did not include Wesaw, who decided not to run for re-election. The Pokagon says Rebecca Richards has been elected Tribal Chairwoman, the first female chairwoman since the tribe received its federal restoration in 1994.

The compact allows the tribe to offer Las Vegas-style slot machines, and such table games as blackjack, craps, and roulette. The compact also allows the Pokagon Band to operate a sportsbook at the South Bend casino. As part of the compact, the tribe cannot offer more gaming seats than the largest commercial casino in Indiana. Currently, Four Winds South Bend features 140,000 square feet of gaming space. A 45,000-square-foot expansion is set to add 850 new slots, 11 more table games, and a high-limit area. The Four Winds Casino currently operates under Class II gaming rules of the National Indian Gaming Commission.
Restaurants
The design integrates tribal cultural references and symbolism with contemporary details to achieve the elegant lodge style now synonymous with the Four Winds brand. Class III gambling includes all other forms of gambling, including casino-style gambling. An Indian tribe can operate Class III games only if the tribe and the state have agreed to a tribal-state gaming compact.
Up to nine players can be accommodated at each poker table. The new hotel will be built adjacent to the casino and offer 317 rooms, including 83 suites. Amenities will include penthouse suites, spa, lounge, bar and grille, roof top swimming pool, view terraces, ballroom, convention area and meeting space.
